To analyze the kinematics of knee joints of individuals with unilateral post-stroke hemiplegia in relation to those of normal individuals. Five post-stroke individuals and five age-matched normal individuals walked at a normal pace, looking forward and backward, and they performed a gait-specific treadmill test. Knee joint kinematics were analyzed by using three-dimensional gait analysis and compared to values obtained in normal individuals. Knee flexion angles were not significantly different during walking in post-stroke individuals compared to those in normal individuals. Nevertheless, mediolateral knee displacement was significantly higher in the affected leg. All individuals displayed worse spatiotemporal gait parameters and increased double support time in the affected leg. The kinematic alterations in the knee joints observed during gait in individuals with unilateral post-stroke hemiplegia are related to the asymmetry in spatiotemporal gait parameters in the affected side.Q:
